Paint protection film (PPF) is a clear, self-healing urethane film laid over a car’s paint, so stone chips, gravel rash and wash marks land on the film instead of the lacquer. It leaves the colour as it is and, fitted properly, is close to invisible.
What’s included
- Full front, track pack or full body
- Self-healing top coat
- Ceramic coating available on top
- Fits under or over a colour-change wrap
In detail
Clear self-healing urethane across the impact zones, or over the whole car. Light scratches and swirl close up with heat, and the film takes the stone chips the front end would otherwise wear for the rest of its life. Ceramic coating on top is an optional extra.
Coverage: full front, track pack or full body
Most cars start with a full front: the bumper, bonnet, wings and mirrors, where stones hit hardest. A track pack or the whole body goes further, and high-wear spots such as the sill tops, the load lip of the boot and the door edges can be added on their own. Edges are wrapped round and tucked wherever the panel allows.
Self-healing, and its limits
The top coat heals: fine swirls and light scratches close up with warmth from the sun or warm water. A scratch that catches a fingernail has gone through it and stays. The film will not stop a dent, and it will not hide chips already in the paint, so those are best repaired before it goes on.
Ceramic coating on top
Over the film, a ceramic coating does a different job: the film takes the impact of stones, while the coating makes the surface slick, so water beads and dirt struggles to stick.
How long it lasts
Expect five to ten years from the film; seven or so is a fair guide for a car that lives outside. The films we fit carry manufacturer warranties against yellowing, peeling and cracking, and the finished job comes with our written warranty.
Finishes and lifespan
Every film we quote is cast vinyl or urethane from a major manufacturer, with the manufacturer’s own warranty behind it. Lifespans assume the aftercare we hand over at collection.
| Finish | Character | Expected life | Care |
|---|---|---|---|
| PPF (clear) | Invisible, self-healing | 5–10 yrs | Ceramic on top optional |
FAQ
Common questions
Is a partial front worth it?
It covers the bumper and the leading edge of the bonnet and wings, but leaves a line across the bonnet where the film stops: hard to find on a light colour, visible on a dark car in low sun. A full bonnet avoids it.
Is PPF worth it on an older car?
Not always. A daily driver already wearing a few chips rarely needs a full front; a car you mean to keep, and that does real miles, is where the film earns its place.
